How to Become a Freemason

The journey to becoming a Freemason begins with a simple principle: To be one, ask one. This tradition, as old as the fraternity itself, ensures that the decision to join is made freely and sincerely.

If you are interested in becoming a Freemason, you must take the first step by asking a Freemason about membership. Freemasonry does not recruit—membership must be initiated by the individual.

If you don’t personally know a Freemason, you can contact the Grand Lodge that oversees your state. They can help connect you with a local lodge and introduce you to a Mason who can guide you through the process.
