Victor O. Young African American Heroes Essay Contest

Presented by Mt. Zion Lodge #15 – Boston, MA

Mt. Zion Lodge #15 invites elementary school students in Grades 1 through 5 to participate in the African American Heroes Essay Contest, a celebration of leadership, inspiration, and cultural heritage.

Essay Topic:
“Who is your African American Hero?”

Contest Details:

  • Essays should be between 100 and 500 words
  • Open to students in Grades 1–5
  • Two winners will be selected per grade
  • Each winner will receive a $50 Barnes & Noble Gift Card

This contest encourages young students to explore the lives and legacies of African American heroes who have made a meaningful impact on their communities and the world.

Men of Zion Charitable Foundation Annual Scholarship

PM Vernon E. Percival – $1,000 Vernon Percival was a Past Master of Mt. Zion Lodge No. 15 and served as the Worshipful Master in 1950.

RW Aaron W. Smith – $1,000 Aaron Smith was a Past Master of Mt. Zion Lodge No. 15 and served as the Worshipful Master in 1960.

Arthur S. Bennett – $500 Arthur Bennett was a longtime faithful member of Mt. Zion Lodge No. 15 and a significant contributor to the initial endowment of this scholarship fund.

PM Wilbur Evans, Sr. – $500 Wilbur Evans, Sr. was a Past Master of Mt. Zion Lodge No. 15 and a regular attendee and contributor to Lodge meetings up until 2020 and served as the Worshipful Master in 1984.

The scholarships are named in the honor of the late Mt. Zion Lodge No. 15 brothers who have exemplified the spirit of fraternity and service in our community, who also had an unwavering passion and dedication to education.
